The Importance of Teamwork: Nick Human Nature: Saad

Describe What Your "Utopia" Looks Like and Why?

My "Utopia" is a interesting place. For starters, It is a place where education thrives. Great public education would be available. In order for a society to prosper, It always has to have people who advance themselves in the pursuit of knowledge. In order for this to be achieved, That would mean that any sort of research is funded by the government. Technology would advance very quickly. Also, the government would be run by intelligent people who can make decisions that better the human race. If we keep bettering ourselves, we can achieve true gain in knowledge.      The people in this "Utopia" would be judged upon their contributions to the society. Another main factor is that the government would not support people who do nothing. They might as well just starve. People like doctors, lawyers, professors, and business people would be at the top of this hierarchy. They are the people who benefit the society the most. Since anybody could become what they want t

The Nature of Humans

Throughout my life, I have noticed several characteristics that are pervasive throughout all of the human race. The first characteristic is that humans are irrational beings. We rarely use objective thinking and logic to make decisions in our lives. The second characteristic is that anybody only seeks to better themselves. Somebody might say that they are doing something for the greater good, but it is only done to appease some subconscious need they have in the head. Lastly, Humans can change. Nothing is ever set in stone for us. Humans possess the unique ability to be fluid in mind and body. This also enables us to understand other people and things by changing the way we think.      I have came to these conclusions from simple observations throughout my entire life. I have always gone through life looking for things beyond what I could see. For the first characteristic, I give the example of love. Love blinds people to their surroundings. It completely encapsulates them and th

Relaxation

Over this fall break, I planned to do a lot of relaxation. For me, relaxation is anytime where I can basically shut down. It is any time when I can take my mind off the world around me. This was the perfect time for me to relieve all of the stress that school has put on me. It is a great way for me to catch up on some sleep I have missed. Relaxation is a way to unwind and take your mind off everything. Relaxation is great, but this is only one part of it.      Relaxation has two parts: turning your mind away from the world, and focusing on your own thoughts. This second part is what I like most about relaxation. I don't have a one track mind. Whenever I am doing something, I have some many different trains of thought. When I relax, the train tracks might as well have disappeared. I stop worrying about everything and focus on who I have become. If I am displeased with who I have become, I prepare to make changes that will suit me better. Basically, relaxing is a way of underst

A&P

During this past week, I read a "A&P" by John Updike. This short story is about a group of girls who walk into a grocery store. In the story, the main character, Sammy, is admirable in some ways. He is kind of your upstanding boy. He seems to care for everybody he meets, but I don't understand him some ways. For instance, why would you become so obsessed with some girls you have never met before. He is also impulsive. I don't understand what goes into his mind to make the abrupt choices he makes.      I find it interesting how Sammy depicts these girls. From what Sammy sees, these girls are prim and proper. Their families are full of wealth. This draws some conflicts on its own. Why would a group of wealthy girls walk into an A&P with just swim suits on? From personal experience, it would seem that if you were fortunate enough to be wealthy, then you parents would at least educate in the ways of proper social etiquette. Although, it might be because they

Jim's Nature Lesson

One day, Jim was riding his bike through the woods to get away from the school bullies. Bushes rustled and wind shook tree branches as he passed by. Jim was having the time of his life until he saw the worst thing that he could’ve possibly imagine. On his trip, Jim fell when his bike hit a root. While getting up and looked to his left. There was a pure white bunny rabbit roaming through the forest. He sat there and watched for a while. As he was about to leave, he saw a black smudge across his vision. As soon as it crossed his vision, he knew the rabbit was doomed. A large snake approached the rabbit stealthily and went in for a fatal blow. Jim could only watch as the rabbit was swallowed whole by the snake. Jim learned an important lesson that day, he wanted to make sure he was the snake, and not the rabbit next time.

Harrison Bergeron

Over the past week, I read "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. The short story is about a world where everybody is "equal." This story inspired to ask some level three questions to myself. One of them is what is the difference between equality and individuality? In the short story, everybody is assigned handicaps so that no one is more able to do anything than anybody else. The problem becomes that no one is able to distinguish themselves in any way. It also appears that nobody can get anything done because their intelligence is so low as a whole. According to the story, getting rid of individuality is part of becoming equal.      Another question I asked myself was is this "equality" good? It appears to me that their society wouldn't be able to function is they had this "equality." If everybody is as intelligent as the dumbest person out their, then how can anybody expect to accomplish anything. It would the only way that their so
