A&P

During this past week, I read a "A&P" by John Updike. This short story is about a group of girls who walk into a grocery store. In the story, the main character, Sammy, is admirable in some ways. He is kind of your upstanding boy. He seems to care for everybody he meets, but I don't understand him some ways. For instance, why would you become so obsessed with some girls you have never met before. He is also impulsive. I don't understand what goes into his mind to make the abrupt choices he makes.
I find it interesting how Sammy depicts these girls. From what Sammy sees, these girls are prim and proper. Their families are full of wealth. This draws some conflicts on its own. Why would a group of wealthy girls walk into an A&P with just swim suits on? From personal experience, it would seem that if you were fortunate enough to be wealthy, then you parents would at least educate in the ways of proper social etiquette. Although, it might be because they are privileged, they think they can do what ever they want.
